XQuery specifications are evolved under W3C Query Working Group. XML Query (XQuery) is currently a W3C Candidate Recommendation. The first version of specification is expected to be released by end of 2006. However XML Query language has already been widely implemented even though it is not yet final, and there is a lot of interest in the development community.
